To me, desks are a hive of activity, and those activities have particular and personal needs.  Their form reflects what we can see and reach, whether we prefer to write and read at a flat or sloping surface and how to optimise access to any storage.  The choice of wood and finish impact the intimate relationship we have with what is in effect a working tool.
