'Flow' Chest
This chest is fourth in a series of beautifully crafted cabinets of similar dimensions made from the same tree. The sculpting of each one is unique. The ripple is a rare natural phenomenon resulting in lateral highlights across the grain. The structural concept contrasts with traditional construction in that the grain runs horizontally around the form, so that any movement in the drawers is matched by that of the carcass. The computer-generated pattern flows continuously around the form creating recesses for the handles.
Materials: English ripple ash, holly wood, oak and Lebanon cedar Circa: 2005
